5 out of 5 stars It's a GAS!   January 22, 2000

I looked forward to the day my three year-old son would be able to play video games with me. I thought that was going to be years away until I got Crash Team Racing! With CTR, we've had a blast! It's not too intimidating for younger children, and the strategies for winning the races makes for plenty of excitement. This is quite possibly the most fun I've had with a video game ever!

5 out of 5 stars A riot   January 20, 2000

I won't pretend to approve of putting top-selling game characters into completely unrelated games to help them sell. Back in the eighties and early nineties 8-bit/16-bit hero Dizzy was tacked onto some really awful rubbish, and then we had the boring Sonic 3D, the 16-bit Sonic Spinball which looked and played more like an 8-bit game, and the complete waste of money that was Sonic R. Fortunately this 4th Crash game is top entertainment. There are numerous race courses and the added challenges (collecting crystals, beating time limits, etc) mean that there is plenty to see and do. There are 8 characters to choose from, a fact which increases the game's life-span as different characters have different skills, and the contesters' little characteristics are present and hilarious as ever. There's also a chance for more than one player to compete.

The only downside is the inclusion of Pinstripe Potoroo, a quite astoundingly unfunny Mafia gangster whose voice sounds more like an arrogant 14-year-old.

But, superficial faults aside, this is THE racing game to own if you have a Playstation, and if this really is the last Crash game then it's nice to be able to say that this is one gaming character at least who's finished his career on a high note.

5 out of 5 stars Multiplayer Mayhem!   January 17, 2000

This game is great fun. The graphics are clear, and the goal simple: entertainment. If you want a lot of fun for more than 2 players, this game is it. Ranks up there with GT2 as a great game, but GT is simulation whereas this is pure unadulterated fun in the form of multiplayer mayhem.

NB: for multiplayer mayhem (3-4 players), be sure to get a Sony multiplayer tap. I bought a non-Sony, the controllers didn't function (i.e., were ignored). Sony one works.

This is a great game which has some of the best graphics the playstation has to offer. It is a ton of fun and its adventure mode is awesome. To get 101% in the adventure mode will take you a long time and you will have a ton of fun completing it.
